The Jurisdiction, Power, and the Frontiers of Empty Space Reading Group Meeting
5:00 to 7:00 PM, MPAA 408

Space understood as “empty” presents a unique site in which to investigate complex questions of ownership, authority, policing, rights, boundaries, and emptiness itself.  This group will examine historical trajectories of law and legal thought, interpretations of and efforts to implement laws where they exist, and the social implications of the exercise of power in, over, and through empty spaces.  Join us in exploring “emptiness” as it relates to piracy and the high seas, the Moon, post-Katrina land use in New Orleans, and any other cases in which you see the concept as applicable.  No reading is required for the first meeting.
Food will be provided.  To RSVP, please email emptyspace.uci@gmail.com by Monday, January 24th.  Please let us know if you are a vegetarian or have any other type of food restriction.
