An exhibition of contemporary art addressing the direct and residual effects of the power of the state as they intersect the psyche and manifest in the force of Law, "The Look of Law" confronts the subjects of surveillance; the police; the prison; the military; the border; the public sphere; the relationship between nations, corporations, and the media; the constant state of war.

The Look of Law conference are two panels of presentations and dialogue between visual art producers, whose work deal with the vicissitudes and representations of the force of "laws," and UC Irvine faculty members whose disciplines intersect with the artists' work.

Co-sponsors: The Center in Law, Society & Culture, Center in Global Peace and Conflict Studies, School of Social Ecology, School of Humanities, Department of Criminology, Law and Society, School of Social Sciences and Center for Humanities.

The Look of Law is conceived and organized by Simon Leung (Studio Art).
